A Departure
I, the ancient Leadwood tree, have spent hundreds of years overlooking the savannah. I’ve seen floods rage beneath me. I’ve watched as droughts turned the plains to dust. I’ve had fires blaze past me. I’ve seen humans, good and bad. Eagles and vultures have perched on me for centuries. Bees, bushbabies and civets have found safety within me. Lions have found comfort in my shadow. Elephants and their ancestors have rubbed up against my trunk. Leopards use my branches for safety, hunting, rest and feeding.
But this is different. As I hold a leopard in the African sky, he devours his smaller cousin -an African Wild Cat. Two wild souls arrived. One departs into the wild, the other into theclouds.
